As with Traditional Therapy, I begin with an Assessment. I then clarify with you your goals for therapy. I recommend a care plan that I think will be most effective in reaching your goals. When I practice "alternative services" I simply offer you the tools of Energy Psychology in your care plan, in addition to traditional tools.
I believe that part of our mission is to introduce people to the latest tools in Energy Psychology which facilitate personal healing that is rapid and virtually pain free, especially when compared with an exclusively traditional approach to psychotherapy. Through my extensive personal and professional experience with the tools of Energy Psychology, I have become passionate about the power these tools have to transform people's lives. I have facilitated and witnessed amazing healing in many people, and I feel privileged to do this work. I would like to share my passion for this work with you.
Simply stated, Energy Psychology is based in an Eastern paradigm of human physiology, which includes an "energy body". For example, for hundreds of years, the Chinese have used the meridian system to understand both what is troubling a person and how to heal it. Specific problems involve specific energy imbalances; healing modailities, such as acupuncture needles, are applied to specific energy points in order to correct the imbalance.
Energy Psychology takes this a step further by applying the paradigm to emotional/mental/behavioral issues, and utilizing healing modalities other than acupuncture needles to balance the energy and thus relieve both the source of the problem and the uncomfortable symptoms.
For example: traumatized people often suffer greatly re-experiencing their trauma via nightmares and flashbacks. One Energy Psychology technique we use, called Thought Field Therapy, works via tapping on the meridian points involved in the trauma. While "tuning into" the problem, the client taps on the associated meridian points. By the end of the TFT process, the client is able to remember the trauma, minus the emotional upset. In our clinical experience, we have found that this relief holds over the long term and is in fact, permanent. Previously, traditional therapy alone would have taken years to achieve even a fraction of the relief TFT provides in just a few sessions! Moreover, old techaniques were often quite painful; the treatment was worse than the cure. This approach provides rapid healing with minimal amounts of suffering in the process. Of course, there is no replacement for a good assessment and a strong working alliance with a therapist and/or MD--research has borne this out repeatedly. But the addition of the tools of Energy Psychology can truly make the therapy process transformational--both for the clients who experience it and for the therapists like us who are privilieged enough to guide people along the process.
