Yoga is an ancient system of healing and personal transformation that I recommend to everyone. Even if you are currently exercising, there are benefits above and beyond exercise that only yoga can give to you. No matter what your personal issues, adding a consistent yoga practice (3 or more times per week) will accelerate your healing and make you feel great.
We are fortunate that the yoga community in San Antonio is having a growth spurt in the last few years, so there are many wonderful teachers, studios and approaches to yoga from which to choose. I have listed some of my personal favorites below, but this is not to the exclusion of any other teachers or studios.
Many of the studios listed below offer pre natal and/or post partum yoga, another fabulous support for mothers. Many of them offer yoga classes for kids as well.
Yoga Shala of San Antonio. located in the Stone Oak Area, featuring Ashtanga, Vinyasa, and Kundalini Yoga. My husband, Ken Willian, teaches Ashtanaga there, so of course I am biased. See www.yogashalasa.com.
Effie Wood has a beautiful, fantastic studio in Castle Hills called Yoga in Motion. Effie is a dynamic and enthusiastic teacher who is a pleasure to learn from. See www.yogainmotionsa.com for more.
Nydia's Yoga Therapy, located at Lockhill Selma and 1604 is great. I partiuclarly love classes with Nydia herself, who so skillfully integrates her knowledge of physical therapy and yoga. For more information, www.nydiasyogatherapy.com.
San Antonio Yoga, located just above 1604 and Bandera Rd in Helotes is a gorgeous sanctuary offering a wonderful variety of yoga classes every week. www.sanantonioyoga.com.
Take a trip to Alamo Heights for Kundalini with Amrit and Mhan Rishi and let your spirit soar. See www.totallydivineyoga. com.
The best yoga in central NJ can be found at Four Winds Yoga, www.fourwindsyoga.com, in Pennington, NJ. Jill Gutowski and Michael Brantl are the co-founders, and they are fantastic teachers and wonderful people.
I am primarily a student of Kundalini Yoga, which I study with Sat Pal at Yoga Shala of San Antonio.
I began Kundalini after my husband Ken returned from a yoga teacher training with a CD of the music of Snatam Kaur. Ken saw her in concert and was deeply moved by her presence and her music. I quickly became hooked on her music as well, and realized that I needed to return to Kundalini yoga, which I had done briefly about 10 years earlier.
At that time I was fortunate to meet Sat Pal at San Antonio Yoga. Since then she has begun teaching almost exclusively at Yoga Shala of San Antonio.
Sat Pal has a wealth of knowledge and wisdom that she shares generously with all of her students. Her gentle, kind and nurturing way of being has been both a healing modality and a channel of divine grace for me.
